Raku

Raku is an ancient Japanese firing process which gives every piece its unique character. Each one carries intention, meaning and spirit. There are different types of firings which create variations in cracks and patterns generated from the smoke and the fire, making each piece unique and cannot be duplicate.  Part of the Raku is the acceptance and appreciation of all the variations that arrive through the spontaneous process.
Much of summer 2025 was spent at my Fraser valley studio painting and building my first raku kiln. I have learnt about horse hair raku, sagar, naked raku (not what you think) and obvara and through trial and many errors and broken pieces I have had some successes to share with you at my December sale. It's been an exciting journey so far.  Thanks Mom for continually inspiring me.
